This photo shows a hyena walking along the Chambal River in the National Chambal Sanctuary, near the Rajasthan-Madhya Pradesh border, an area once dominated by bandits. The river, which runs through Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh, is part of Indian mythology and considered cursed, leading locals to avoid performing rituals or polluting it.
Now a sanctuary, the Chambal River protects endangered wildlife like Ganges river dolphins, gharials, and red-crown turtles. I took this photo from a safari boat in March 2023 / Nikon D500 / Nikkor 500MM F/5.6E PF ED VR
